Good evening Forney Family Parents & Guardians,

We need your support as we work through a unique situation across our country.  We are working quickly to put the best plan in place for our staff and students. Our hope is that we will provide some fun learning opportunities for you and your student(s) to continue their educational growth at home. Students will not come to school March 16-20.

In preparation to launch virtual learning next week, we wanted to provide some additional information, with more to come next week. We are committed to keeping communication lines open with frequent updates.

Tentative plan for March 16-20, 2020:

Students will not attend school. All instruction will be done at home.

Monday - Extension of Spring Break while plans are finalized for virtual/distance learning.

Tuesday - Teacher virtual planning, and teachers will begin to communicate with students and parents via phone and/or email to set up learning platforms and lines of communication

Wednesday - Student instruction and work activities begin at home.

    What is virtual learning?

Forney ISD will launch www.forneyisd.net/virtual on Wednesday morning as a centralized hub for virtual and distance learning.

Virtual learning looks different at every grade level, and teachers will continue to provide guidance and clarity throughout the process.

K-2 virtual content will be communicated from the classroom teacher next week.  Teachers will be reaching out to their students via phone and email to provide assistance.

Student lessons for 3rd through 12th grade will have the ability for virtual learning through the district Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.  If 3rd grade students do not have access to a computer at home or a sibling’s chromebook, please let us know by completing the survey or calling the hotline listed below.

    Need additional resources at home?

If your student is in need of meals from Child Nutrition, does not have Internet access, or is a 3rd grade student that does not have computer access, we are asking parents to please complete this survey as soon as possible, if needed, or if you don’t have access to Wi-Fi, you can call our Resource Request hotline at 469-762-4500. (Please leave a message.) We are working to arrange pick-up of requested resources and will send a follow-up email with date, time and location once determined.

If you have friends or neighbors that you think may not be receiving district emails, phone calls or texts, please feel free to share with them.

Are after-school and UIL activities and events cancelled?

All school activities/events are cancelled until further notice. UIL unanimously approved suspension of all activities until further notice.

How long will students have virtual learning?

If virtual learning is required beyond next week, the district will re-evaluate no later than March 20. This situation is fluid and may change with very little notice in the coming weeks.

How can I stay updated with the latest information?

We will be updating www.forneyisd.net/healthupdate, as well as sending emails to the parent/guardian contacts in our system.  Please make sure your phone number, email and contact information is updated in Skyward, and download the Forney ISD mobile app.

What if I have additional questions?

Feel free to send additional questions or request resources here. We will continue to add FAQs to our virtual learning page, as well as email out answers to all parents and staff.

Thank you for your support and patience as we work to keep our Forney Family safe, healthy and learning.
