Parent Email 3-18-20, 8:30 p.m.

  • Dear Forney Family Parents & Staff,

Today was an amazing first day of virtual learning!  We know it’s new for everyone, and we’ll all work together and provide grace both ways to help our students through this process.  We’ll continue to adjust and make changes as we go.

You can always check www.forneyisd.net/virtual for the latest updates from the district, and email your teacher with questions about virtual classroom learning.

Teachers will be calling and reaching out to you, so if you miss a call from a campus, please check your voicemail before calling the main campus line back.

    COMMUNITY RESOURCE HOTLINE

We’re now opening up our Resource Hotline to our community! If you are a community member (you don’t have to be a student, staff or parent), and have a need for meals or something else, please call us.  We’ll pass that information on to local organizations, and see if we can work together to fill that need. Our local churches and service organizations are partnering with us, and we will help centralize the requests. We want to serve all of our #ForneyFamily.

Grab & Go Meal Times Extended - Now 7-11 a.m.

Grab & Go meals were a hit this morning, so we’re expanding the time - 7-11 a.m. every weekday during virtual learning at Lewis, Rhea and Smith.  Food Services has provided an updated menu on their website.

Tech Hubs at Smith & Rhea

In addition to the Grab & Go Meals, we also have Tech Hubs setup at Rhea and Smith.  If you need a Chromebook, need a repair, or had a Chromebook in the depot over the break, you can drive through and stop at the Tech Hub from 7-11 a.m. on weekdays.  If you forgot your Chromebook on your home campus, that will be handled by that campus. (See info below.)

Virtual Learning: K-2 virtual vs. 3-12 Chromebook

Virtual learning looks different at every level, but your teachers began reaching out via phone and email yesterday to start guiding you through the process. If your teacher hasn’t reached out, please call the campus between 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

    Wi-Fi

We sent a list of companies offering free Wi-Fi in last night’s email, and it is available on our website.  Since then we received notice from People’s, the sole provider in Windmill Farms, is also offering free services. To determine service availability, please visit www.peoplescom.net or call 1-800-333-9779.

Also, families may drive through the bus lane to the back of Smith Intermediate or Rhea Intermediate School, where Wi-Fi will be accessible under the awning at the back of the school. The student will not need to exit the car. Once there, the student can access the WiFi and upload the work to their Chromebook to work offline at home.

    Campus item pick-up

If your student left an item on campus, you can contact your campus via phone and share your student name, the item left and location on campus. We’ll do the best we can to locate the item, and call you back with pick-up date/time, March 19 and 20, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.  Please know it may take some time to locate, and we’ll do our best. When you come to campus to pick-up, please do not get out of your car. Call the campus, and we will bring the item to your car.
