Attendance Zone FAQs

As one of the fastest growing school districts, Forney ISD works closely with our demographers to track neighborhood growth patterns, upcoming developments, and population trends. Forney ISD dedicates its time, funding, and resources to providing top-tier facilities and support systems that cultivate a positive learning environment for students and the community.

• Intermediate, middle, and high school attendance zone boundaries will NOT change for 2026-2027, only elementary zones are adjusting.
• All current 4th-11th grade students will remain in their current feeder patterns, and will not be impacted by the proposed elementary attendance zone modification. 
• For Kindergarten through 4th grade, Blackburn, Claybon, Criswell, Dewberry,  Henderson, Johnson, and Lewis will remain in their current zones. 
• Due to the growth in our Dual Language program, the plan shows that the Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade Dual Language program expand to Jacobs Elementary when it opens in fall 2026, creating attendance zones for the program.
• The Advanced Academics and Fine Arts Academy (AAFAA) will remain at Blackburn Elementary.

• 2026-2027 Elementary School Attendance Zones
• 2026-2027 Pre-K-4th Dual Language Program Zones
• 2026-2027 Intermediate School Attendance Zones (remains unchanged from 2025-2026)  
• 2026-2027 Middle School Attendance Zones (remains unchanged from 2025-2026)  
• 2026-2027 High School Attendance Zones (remains unchanged from 2025-2026)  

The district has 5 separate zoning maps that are independent of each other: (1) elementary, (2) Pre-K-4th dual language program. (3) intermediate, (4) middle, and (5) high school. 

Transportation will be provided for students at both Wilson Elementary and Jacobs Elementary for students who live in the zone, and meet the transportation requirements for students on both the English and Spanish side of Dual.

• Expected to be 35,000 students by 2031
• District will almost double in next 10 years

• Evaluate current enrollment  
• Analyze growth projections from demographers
• Evaluate current facilities and capacities at each campus
• Board sets rezoning goals/parameters
• Demographers propose a draft plan
• Community feedback is received
• Demographers adjust plans if necessary
• Board adopts plan 

Optimize Space – Efficient use of buildings to reduce overcrowding in building when possible.

Growth – Best effort will be made to prepare for future growth

Campus Proximity - Have students attend the school closest to where they live. 

Natural Lines – Will attempt to use natural boundary lines when possible.

Special Programs - Addresses program overcrowding.

Parents may submit a petition to transfer their student/s to another campus within the District during designated windows of time. Guidelines are in place to ensure consistency in whether the petitions are approved or denied. Learn more about transfer requests here.

Significant determining factor will be the available capacity of the requested campus.
