LEague Information
Recreational Leagues
All students are asked to attend a short evaluation night at the OC (Dates listed above). These evaluations are short drills that will helps us divide the skill level equitably amongst all the teams. Siblings or family members may be placed on the same team. In order to accomplish this, please email jpwalker@forneyisd.net prior to teams being assigned. Uniforms will be handed out on the day of the first game. Each student will receive a green and white OC uniform. The home team will wear the white jersey and the away team will wear the green jersey. In addition, all students will have minimum play time requirements. If a player is present at a game they must receive the minimum play time unless notice is given (in writing) 24 hours in advance to the Office of Engagement and the players parents. Minimum play time can only be revoked for certain reasons such as injury, illness, parent request, or certain behavioral issues.
Some of the open division teams are looking for extra players for their teams. Those coaches will be invited to the evaluation nights. When you are checked in for your evaluation you will be given a number and you will be asked if your player is interested in playing in the open league. If you say no, your player will not be chosen for an open league team. If you say yes, Open League teams will have a draft to fill out the remaining roster spots on their team and they will use the players registered in the recreational division and that may include your player.
3. Any player that has registered and paid will have a time in either the open or recreational divisions. For the recreational divisions, I will form those teams after the open teams have finalized rosters. I will use the evaluation scores to create the teams. Team announcements will be made on Wednesday, Sept 3 for all teams and practices will begin the following week.
Open Leagues
This league is great for teams that already have experience playing together and would like to continue that journey. It is also great if you have a group of 3 or more friends that would like to play on the same team. The registration cost is the same but the big difference is the stricter adherance to the NFHS Volleyball rules. A full overview of the rules can be found in the rules packet link below. In addition, if you do not already have a full team, you can register a partial team and the coach can attend the evaluation night for the recreational league to recruit players if needed. To register a team, the coach must email jpwalker@forneyisd.net. Jake will create the team in the registration software and players can then register to join the team. All of the Open Division coaches will have a final meeting before teams are finalized to discuss adding extra players from the Recreational League. This will be done in a draft system and based on when the team registered and the number of players on each team.
General Information
Players will have one scheduled practice each week and a game each Saturday. Practices will be held on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. You are able to choose your practice day preference during the registration process. All practices and games will be scheduled at the OC, Jackson Middle School or Jones Intermediate School. Coaches will communicate the practice and game schedule once your student has been placed on a team. There will be 7 games per season. Practices and games will not take place during weeks or days in which there is no school. For example, there will be no practices or games during Spring Break. Game dates and practice dates are listed above
At the end of the season, the top teams from each division will compete in a single day tournament to determine a league champion. The league champions and runners up will receive awards. When possible, all teams will be placed into the championship day bracket.
Each game will have two officials and a court supervisor. The officials will be students from North Forney or Forney High School and will have gone through NFHS officials training to be prepared for the league. The court supervisor will help with court setup, tear down, water jug refills, basic first aid and help answer parents questions. Please keep in mind that these students are still learning as well! Games will be the best of three sets with each set being played to 21 and the third set (if necessary) to 15. There is a cap on each set of 25 (20 for the 3rd set) points. More information on scoring and rules can be found in the volleyball rule book.
