Updates!
Now offering divisions for grades first-second! This age group league is developmental in nature and is also offered for a reduced price of $60. The regular season will consist of six-seven games with two sets being played each game. Coaches and volunteers will help navigate the game. Each team will then play in a tournament at the end of the season with awards for first and second place!
We have also opened up registration for 7th and 8th graders! Keep in mind, this is a recreational league and teams will be assigned. All students are asked to attend a short evaluation night at the OC (Dates listed above). These evaluations are short drills that will helps us divide the skill level equitably amongst all the teams. Siblings or family members may be placed on the same team. In order to accomplish this, please email jpwalker@forneyisd.net prior to teams being assigned. Uniforms will be handed out on the day of the first game. Each student will receive a green and white OC uniform. The home team will wear the green jersey and the away team will wear the white jersey. In addition, all students will have minimum play time requirements. If a player is present at a game they must receive the minimum play time unless notice is given (in writing) 24 hours in advance to the Office of Engagement and the players parents. Minimum play time can only be revoked for certain reasons such as injury, illness, parent request, or certain behavioral issues.
Players will have one scheduled practice each week and a game each Saturday. Practices will be held on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. You are able to choose your practice day preference during the registration process. All practices and games will be scheduled at the OC. If the OC courts are unavailable, games will be rescheduled across the street at the Jackson-Rhodes Campus. Coaches will communicate the practice and game schedule once your student has been placed on a team. There will be 7-8 weeks per season. Practices and games will not take place during weeks or days in which there is no school. For example, there will be no practices or games during Spring Break.
At the end of the season, the top teams from each division will compete in a single day tournament to determine a league champion. The league champions and runners up will receive awards. When possible, all teams will be placed into the championship day bracket.
Each game will have two officials and a court supervisor. The officials will be students from North Forney or Forney High School and will have gone through NFHS officials training to be prepared for the league. The court supervisor will help with court setup, tear down, water jug refills, basic first aid and help answer parents questions. Please keep in mind that these students are still learning as well! Games will be the best of three sets with each set being played to 21 and the third set (if necessary) to 15. There is a cap on each set of 25 (20 for the 3rd set) points. More information on scoring and rules can be found in the volleyball rule book.
