LEague Information

Recreational Leagues

All players are asked to attend a short evaluation night at the OC (Dates listed above). These evaluations are short drills that will helps us divide the skill level equitably amongst all the teams. Siblings or family members may be placed on the same team. In order to accomplish this, please email jpwalker@forneyisd.net prior to teams being assigned. Uniforms will be handed out on the day of the first game. Each student will receive a jersey as part of their registration cost. In addition, all players will have minimum play time requirements. If a player is present at a game they must receive the minimum play time unless notice is given (in writing) 24 hours in advance to the Office of Engagement and the players parents. Minimum play time can only be revoked for certain reasons such as injury, illness, parent request, or certain behavioral issues.

Any player that has registered and paid will be placed on a team. If you would like to be placed on a team with another player, please fill out the form below after registration.

Divisions of Play

Divisions of player are based on the grade level of the current school year. Players may choose to play up a grade level, but may not play down a grade level. You will be placed on a team based on the grade division in which your player is registered. This means that if you register them in the 5th grade division, they will be placed on a team in that division.

Each division has slightly different rules designed to keep the gameplay competitive for all skill levels. For a full set of rules please refer to the rules link at the bottom of this page. A list of each division is listed below as well.

  • Kindergarten (Coed)
  • First Grade (Coed)
  • Second Grade (Coed)
  • Third Grade Girls
  • Fourth Grade Girls
  • Fifth Grade Girls
  • Sixth Grade Girls
  • Middle School Girls
  • 3rd-4th Boys
  • 5th-6th Boys

General Information

Players will have one scheduled practice each week and a game each Saturday. Practices will be held on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. You are able to choose your practice day preference during the registration process. Coaches will communicate the practice and game schedule once your student has been placed on a team. There will be 7 games per season (including one preseason game that will not count for standings). Practices and games will not take place during weeks or days in which there is no school. For example, there will be no practices or games during Spring Break. Game dates and practice dates are listed above. Jerseys and numbers will be delivered on the day of the first match. Each team will receive a different colored jersey and a set of numbers. The numbers will be handed out by the coach to ensure to repeating numbers and then the staff will press the numbers onto the jerseys.

At the end of the season, the top teams from each division will compete in a single day tournament to determine a league champion. The league champions and runners up will receive awards. When possible, all teams will be placed into the championship day bracket.

Each game (3rd grade and up) will have two officials. The officials will be students from FHS and NFHS and high school certified officials. The staff will help with court setup, tear down, water jug refills, basic first aid and help answer parents questions. Please keep in mind that these student officials are still learning as well! Games will be the best of three sets with each set being played to 21 and the third set (if necessary) to 15. There is a cap on each set of 25 (20 for the 3rd set) points. More information on scoring and rules can be found in the volleyball rule book.
