Forney ISD IT is aware of a growing number of users experiencing audio issues with Vivis over the past week. We are working with Vivi support to identify the cause and find a permanent solution. If you have experienced any of the following issues with your Vivi within the past week, please submit a ticket so we can investigate:
- Audio lag/desync
- Audio chop (cutting in and out)
- In a playlist, the audio for the second or subsequent videos is not present.
Update: 1:40PM Nov 1st, 2023
We've been provided the following update from Vivi's Support team:
"Our team have replicated the issue not only on Vivi but also on Chromecast and a variety of similar products to attain a comprehensive understanding of this issue. Our findings indicate the audio performance hiccup is tied to recent Chrome OS releases (118.0.5993.86 and 119.0.6045.38 <beta>), given that we didn't encounter any similar issues on versions 103 and 117. We have taken the proactive steps of communicating this to Google and we are awaiting their feedback. We remain committed to ensuring that you continue to enjoy an optimal user experience and will keep you updated on any progress."
Vivi's findings line up with the release of Google's latest ChromeOS patch and why this issue seemed to slowly spread across the district as more devices updated to the latest version. Since the issue is tied to a system security patch, we are not going to take any immediate action. We will re-assess our options in the coming days, once Google has had time to respond to the bug report from Vivi.
Update: 1:45PM Nov 16th, 2023
Vivi is asking that we help make this bug a priority with Google by reporting any instances of the issue. If you are experiencing issues with Vivi Share Screen and audio, please use the instructions at the following link to report the issue to Google. https://support.google.com/
Update: 1:00PM Dec 5th, 2023
Vivi Support reached out this morning to inform us that Google has released a proposed fix for the audio streaming bug in ChromeOS v120.
ChromeOS v120 is still in beta and has not been fully tested for general release, but FISD IT has tested the release and found no major issues with our supported software or hardware. Due to the impact this audio streaming bug is having across the district, we've decided to immediately move all Staff devices to BetaOS channel. Devices should begin downloading the ChromeOS v120 update this afternoon and will prompt for reboot once the update is ready to install. If you would like to manually update to v120, please follow the instructions in this Google help document for how to force your device to check for updates: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/177889?hl=en
If your device does not begin downloading the v120 update by the morning of Dec 6th, please submit a Help Desk request (include the device asset tag) so that we can ensure it is flagged as a staff device.
This update is only being released for staff devices. Students will remain on ChromeOS v119 until v120 is released from beta testing.

Effective November 1st, the voicemail to email feature of our phone system is changing due to an incompatibility with a 3rd party vendor. All users will still receive a copy of their voicemails in their email inbox; however, users will also need to listen, delete, or save the message using your desk phone or the voicemail portal (https://vmportal.forneyisd.net/inbox/) to clear any notifications or lights that are present on your desk phone, jabber, or webex.
We will re-evaluate enabling this feature in the future.

We’re writing to let you know that Google will be upgrading the format of spaces organized by conversation topics in Google Chat to in-line threaded spaces starting on September 30, 2023.
What do you need to know?
Starting September 30, 2023, Google will be upgrading the format of all spaces organized by conversation topic to in-line threaded spaces in batches over the course of several months. Once the upgrade starts for a space, we anticipate it will typically take a few minutes to complete. In some cases, it can take up to 12 hours to complete, during which the space will be unavailable to users. For most users, Google will be upgrading their spaces during non-peak hours on weekends to try and ensure minimal disruption.
Spaces organized by conversation topic have messages and replies grouped together in the main chat window. In-line threaded spaces, on the other hand, allow direct replies to any message, and allow creating a separate in-line thread, which is a sub-conversation that appears in a separate pane in the chat window to a sub-conversation where smaller groups of people can continue a conversation on a specific topic.
What is the IT Support Blog?
The Forney ISD IT Department maintains this blog to communicate changes -both planned and unplanned- to our environment. This blog will be the first place we communicate any known outages or interruptions of service, as well as where we share newly released updates and planned changes for the future. Forney ISD Staff can join this chat space to be automatically notified of new posts to the blog.
If you are looking for how to request IT support, please submit a ticket through our district Help Desk.
If you are a parent or guardian with a non-IT question, please contact your student's campus.
