The Forney Independent School District's transportation system provides the most economical means for serving all of the eligible bus students residing in the school district.
Transportation is available for students who live two miles or more from their assigned school or in an area that is deemed hazardous by the Forney ISD School Board. This policy is based upon state funding.
Forney ISD has a mapping program which is used for transportation management and routing. The software also helps the District determine transportation eligibility as it is capable of accurately determining the home to school distance for each student in the District. Transportation services are not provided to students who choose to transfer from their assigned school.
SMART Tag System
Forney ISD uses the Secured Mobility Authorized Ridership Technology (SMART) tag system for all students who ride the bus to and from school. Each of our buses is outfitted with a Samsung tablet equipped with a Radio Frequency Identification reader, mobile connectivity, and Global Positioning System. Similar to systems used in public transportation, students place their campus-supplied SMART tag ID badges on the tablet’s sensor when loading and unloading their bus. Only the student’s name and associated bar code will be printed on the ID badge. No information is stored on the badge.

Beginning on January 5, 2022, our spring semester, all students shall have their SMART Tag badge to scan daily on and off the bus. Please communicate with your child the importance of our SMART Tag system for the safety and security of each and every one on the bus. Any student that fails to use their SMART Tag ID badge three days within a semester will be removed from the bus on the fourth day. For any further failure to produce the SMART Tag ID badge, students will not be allowed to ride the bus until a badge is obtained.
