Forney ISD Earns Theatre Education Award of Distinction

Forney Independent School District has been named a 2026–2027 Award of Distinction Exemplary District by the Texas Educational Theatre Association, recognizing the district's outstanding commitment to excellence in theatre education and its continued support of the performing arts.

The prestigious Award of Distinction honors colleges, universities, school districts, and theatre departments across Texas that demonstrate exceptional achievement in advancing theatre education. Recipients are selected based on their dedication to educational excellence, advocacy, diversity, resource development, and support for student opportunities in theatre arts.

The Award of Distinction recognizes schools and districts that create dynamic and inclusive environments where theatre education can thrive. To earn this designation, applicants must submit a comprehensive annual application demonstrating excellence across multiple areas, including:

• Quality and quantity of theatrical productions
• Access to theatre resources, performance venues, and play libraries
• Community and administrative support for theatre programs
• Student participation in University Interscholastic League (UIL) theatre competitions
• Involvement in theatrical design contests
• Theatre technology and technical theatre opportunities
• Advocacy efforts and commitment to diversity in theatre arts

The recognition reflects Forney ISD's ongoing commitment to providing students with meaningful fine arts experiences and ensuring that theatre remains a vibrant part of the educational journey.

The Texas Educational Theatre Association will formally recognize all Award of Distinction recipients during the Awards Ceremony at TheatreFest on October 2, 2026, at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. Honorees will also be featured in the July edition of the association's newsletter and across its social media platforms.

The Texas Educational Theatre Association supports, promotes, and expands educational theatre across the state by providing educational opportunities, fostering professional networks, and establishing standards and programs that celebrate the importance of theatre education.
