FISD Receives Superior Achievement Award in Finance

Kelly Juntunen

For the ninth year in a row, Forney ISD has received an “A” rating for “Superior Achievement” from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The rating system measures the quality of school district financial management and reporting systems.

The “A” rating is the highest possible score a school district can receive, and Forney ISD has received an “A” rating every year since 2016.

“We are proud of this recognition because the district takes our role seriously to make sure our money is well managed,” Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry said. “Our business team, under the leadership of Associate Superintendent John Chase, shows their commitment to excellence in financial practices every day and achieving a superior rating is validation for those high standards.”

The board also adopted a tax rate this year of $1.2869, which is a decrease from the previous year. The district has lowered the tax rate more than 25¢ over the last 6 years.

“Strong financial practices are essential to achieving our long-term goals,” Board President Greg Pharris said. “Managing tax dollars is a responsibility we take very seriously and we will continue to do that in a financially transparent manner.”
