Forney ISD Launches First Intermediate Competitive Dance Team
Forney ISD Fine Arts has launched the first intermediate school competitive dance team in the district at Smith Intermediate. The campus hosts the Advanced Academics and Fine Arts Academy, which offers a unique educational experience to students who qualify for academically gifted programming. Students are immersed in instruction that develops and challenges their unique capabilities while fostering creativity and productivity through fine arts education. The inaugural team has 11 sixth-grade dancers who participated in the AAFAA dance program during their fifth-grade year.
The Shark Nation Dance Team serves as a performing group representing the district to boost morale, promote school spirit, pride, and sportsmanship. Dance Coach Kristianna Hogan-Freeman said she hopes the program will help students develop character, leadership, academic excellence, teamwork, respect for authority, and healthy living habits.
Dancers will perform at community events, multiple dance productions throughout the school district, and plan to compete at regional and national competitions in the spring semester. Hogan-Freeman said, “Our inaugural team members are eager to showcase their skill and talent for our community and beyond.”
