Forney ISD Receives ‘A’ Rating for TEA’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for 8th Year

Kelly Juntunen

For the eighth year in a row, Forney ISD has received an “A” rating for “Superior Achievement” from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The rating system measures the quality of school district financial management and reporting systems.

The “A” rating is the highest possible score a school district can receive.  The Forney ISD has received an “A” rating every year since 2016.

“This rating shows the exceptional job done by our business department to make sure our money is well managed. This work has become even more difficult as our operational expenses increase while the per pupil allotment remains stagnant,” Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry said. “Our board continues to be financially responsible and good stewards of our tax dollars.”

In addition to the FIRST rating, Standard and Poors has assigned an A+ underlying bond rating to the District’s outstanding debt.  The board adopted a tax rate this year that is 6.5 cents lower than last year, and 25 cents lower than 5 years ago.

“We’re thankful for the trust our community places in us, and our board will continue to manage our funds conservatively,” Board President Greg Pharris said. “We’ll continue to work hard to get the most value of our tax dollars while managing our fast growth.”
