Malik Johnson, a 7th grade percussionist at Warren Middle School, has been named a Top 40 Finalist in the inaugural Zildjian US Young Drummer of the Year competition. This national contest is open to drum set players under 16 from across the country—and Malik stood out among thousands of entries.

Malik said, “I worked very hard to enter the competition by practicing a lot to find out first what I wanted to play, and then once I did that, I had to make sure that it was right. I remembered what I learned from percussion at Jones Intermediate and made it happen!”

Congratulations to Malik for this incredible achievement!
