Forney Lady Rabbits Make History as 6A-D2 State Runner-Up
Lauren Blackard

The Forney High School Lady Rabbits Varsity Soccer team made program history this past weekend, earning the title of 6A-Division II UIL State Runner-Up in their first-ever appearance in a state championship match. Entering the game with an impressive 28-1 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in district play, the Lady Rabbits carried momentum, confidence, and determination into Georgetown as they competed on one of the biggest stages in Texas high school athletics.

Forney set the tone early, finding the back of the net in the opening stages of the match to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Rabbits maintained that advantage for nearly the entire game, playing disciplined defense and controlling the pace against a strong Humble Kingwood team. With the state title within reach, Humble Kingwood managed to score in the final minute of regulation, tying the match 1-1 and forcing overtime.

The intensity carried into two overtime periods, where both teams continued to battle but were unable to break the deadlock. The championship ultimately came down to penalty kicks, bringing an end to an unforgettable and hard-fought contest.

Despite the outcome, the Lady Rabbits’ performance was nothing short of remarkable. Their grit, composure, and relentless effort throughout the match reflected the identity they have built all season, rooted in toughness, teamwork, and playing with heart.

Individual excellence was also recognized, as three Lady Rabbits were named to the 2026 UIL State Soccer All-Tournament Team. Senior midfielder Addison Smith, junior forward Kalani Brundage, and sophomore forward Addison Staats each earned honors for their standout performances during the state tournament.

This historic season marks a major milestone for the Forney High School soccer program. Reaching the state championship for the first time and competing at such a high level is a testament to the dedication of the players, coaches, and support staff, as well as the unwavering support from the Forney community.

While the Lady Rabbits fell just short of a state title, their legacy is firmly established. This team has set a new standard and inspired the next generation of Lady Rabbits to dream big and compete with the same passion and pride.

Forney ISD is incredibly proud of these student-athletes and all they accomplished this season.
