Forney ISD is proud to recognize Henderson Elementary fourth-grade student Sophia Carlos for being named a winner in the 2027 Texas Floodplain Management Association Calendar Art Contest.
Sophia’s artwork, titled “Turn Around Don’t Drown,” was selected from a competitive pool of entries across the state, earning her the honor of having her design featured as the official calendar cover for the 2027 TFMA calendar.
The annual contest highlights student creativity while promoting awareness of important environmental topics, including flood safety and preparedness. Sophia’s selection reflects both her artistic talent and her ability to thoughtfully represent the contest’s theme.
The Texas Floodplain Management Association hosts the annual contest as part of its ongoing efforts to engage students and communities in understanding flood risks and safety. Winning entries are featured in the organization’s yearly calendar, which is distributed to promote education and awareness statewide.
Sophia’s accomplishment is a point of pride for Henderson Elementary and the entire Forney ISD community, as her artwork will represent students across Texas in the 2027 calendar.
