Students who have applied will be notified of their acceptance the week of July 7.

Students who live outside of Forney ISD district are evaluated on previous STAAR performance, student records indicating passing and earned credits, discipline records, and attendance records. Extenuating circumstances are also considered.

Yes, the Virtual Academy could be a possibility.

The Virtual Academy application may be completed prior to enrollment. Once enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year opens in July, families may then complete enrollment for fall 2025.

If there are no STAAR assessment results for evaluation, other assessments could be considered or provided to your student for further evaluation.

Currently, the STAAR test is mandated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and is required by all students, including virtual students. Depending on the grade level and STAAR assessment students would be required to campus or VA testing center 1-2 times per year.

Click on the application link in Avela.  Be sure you choose "Start Form" at the bottom of the page. On the drop-down  "Select a Form" and choose "Submit Academies Form".

Please visit our Forney ISD Virtual Academy Enrollment website at www.forneyisd.net/virtual and select "Apply Now."  Each application is evaluated individually. Families will be notified of acceptance the week of July 7. After acceptance, students will enroll in Forney ISD as a Virtual or Hybrid student.

There will be opportunities throughout the year. 

Apply by June 30th = Entrance 1st Nine Weeks
Apply by September 26th = Entrance 2nd Nine Weeks
Apply by December 5th = Entrance 2nd Semester

The daily schedule allows for flexibility. However, TEA has not identified how we will take attendance, but flexibility is key with our program.

Virtual labs are adapted for the virtual environment.

For 9th-12th grade students, the STAAR test is mandated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and is required for all students, including virtual students. Students who are unsuccessful must complete tutorial hours during the following year.

Yes. Virtual Academy staff hold office hours and tutoring opportunities. They may be scheduled virtually or in-person at the Virtual Academy offices. Small groups will also occur throughout the year to ensure students are mastering the content.

The Virtual Academy now serves 5th-12th grade students, and they must meet the same requirements for those attending in-person classes.

Most of the class is completed asynchronously (not live), however, STAAR testing subjects will be required to attend synchronous learning but flexible times will be offered.

Yes, Collegiate Academy students may take Virtual Academy courses. Dual credit is offered through Dallas College, and provided for all FISD students.

We can accommodate students requiring special services. Students are evaluated on an individual basis.

Google classroom is the official Learning Management System for FISD. However, to run our Virtual Academy successfully we use several learning platforms based on the subject. Parents will have access all platforms and teachers communicate often.

Yes, there are dedicated teachers for Virtual Academy.

The daily schedule allows for flexibility. For students in 5th-9th grade there will be 30 minute sessions 2-3 times per week for synchronous learning and progress check-ins. TEA has not identified how we will take attendance, but flexibility is key with our program.

There is flexibility through hybrid Virtual Academy. Students may opt to take certain classes on campus or at home.

Students in the Virtual Academy have the same opportunities of FISD students, which may include access to extra- and co-curricular activities, fine arts, athletics, CTE courses, free dual credit, and more. In addition, Virtual Academy provides advanced curriculum led by certified teachers.

To be enrolled in the Virtual Academy a student must be enrolled in Forney ISD. After acceptance into the Virtual Academy, students will be able to enroll as a student in Forney ISD.

The Virtual Academy accepts students who were previously homeschooled.

Yes, hybrid students can attend extracurricular programs, but it will be the responsibility of the parent to provide or ensure all necessary transportation.

It is possible to be a hybrid student if the student takes a least one face-to-face class on a campus. Students have the ability to choose as many on-campus classes and virtual classes as they would like.

Depending on the needs of each student, including extra curricular programs, schedules will vary. For hybrid students to attend extracurricular programs it will be the responsibility of the parent to provide or ensure all necessary transportation.

Currently, in-district students may participate as a hybrid student in sports and other extracurricular activities. Students must attend the campus zoned by residence address. All students must adhere to the rules, regulations and policies as defined by the coaches, directors, UIL and the FISD Student Code of Conduct.

Students residing in FISD boundaries would work with the virtual counselor to initiate a return to campus.
