Admissions Criteria

To be considered for for Virtual Academy, the student must meet the following criteria:
- Pass all courses in 2022/2023 with a 70 or above
- Met academic criteria for STAAR/EOC tests
- Less than 10 unexcused absences in 2022/23
- Commit to 1 year of virtual learning
- Be available to fully engage in learning each day in asynchronous and synchronous formats as their schedule requires
- Has transportation to and from required face-to-face testing and tutoring sessions
- Access to all required technology
- Reliable internet connection
- School issued Chromebook with working camera
- Headphones

Expectations for Virtual Academy
Students must meet the following criteria to remain eligible for Virtual Academy:
- Maintain attendance based on state and local district guidelines
- Maintain progress report grades of at least 70 in all courses
- Attend tutorials (face-to-face or virtual) as required
- Schedule and attend face-to-face testing sessions
- Maintain working technology throughout the year
- Pass all sections of the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR)
- Read and acknowledge the district Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) regarding technology and the internet
- Complete & submit coursework on time
- Meet student, parent, and district expectations throughout the year
- Adhere to the Forney ISD Code of Conduct and behave with integrity and honesty while participating in the academy

Probationary Period
If the student fails to meet the expectations as stated above, a Virtual Academy Student Review Meeting will be held. The Virtual Academy Review Meeting will include the principal or principal designee, teachers, parents, the student, and the district director over the program. Parents shall be notified regarding the meeting and the probation requirements.
The principal or principal designee, with the support of the district program director, will develop an individual probationary plan that addresses the identified area(s) in which the student did not meet Virtual Academy student expectations. The purpose of the plan is to assist the student in making improvements in the identified area(s) and for overall student success in the program.
At the end of each grading cycle, the academy advisor will evaluate the student’s progress and determine whether to remove the student’s probationary status, extend the probation, or recommend that the student exit the academy program.
