Forney ISD Teacher Receives USA CS Teaching Excellence Award
Christopher Evans, a Computer Science teacher at North Forney High School, was recently selected as an honorable mention for the 2023 CS Teaching Excellence Award. This award recognizes teachers who “demonstrate their excellent work inspiring students to explore the computer science field; effectively engage students in learning rigorous, standards-aligned, computer science content; and a focus on broadening participation of underrepresented students in computing.”

Forney ISD Receives National Math and Science Initiatives Program Grant
Forney ISD was awarded the National Math & Science Initiative's College Readiness and Laying the Foundation Program Grant worth upwards of a half million dollars. These programs help schools build and maintain subject matter expertise, enhance their leadership of diverse classrooms and propel students’ confidence, creativity and problem solving skills.

Forney ISD School Board Appoints Dr. Idemudia; Green Steps Down after Years of Service
Th e Forney ISD school board accepted her resignation at the May 16 board meeting. Green recommended Dr. Michael Idemudia to be her replacement. Board Vice President Chad Johnson made the motion to accept her recommendation, and Secretary Becky Dobbs seconded. The board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Idemudia for the remainder of Green’s term.

Forney ISD Music Teacher Honored by CMA Foundation as a 2023 Music Teachers of Excellence Recipient
Corey Graves, Band Director at Jackson Middle School, was recognized by the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation for being named one of the 2023 Music Teachers of Excellence. Graves is one of only 30 educators to receive this award from across the nation.

Forney High School Percussion Ensemble Receives Invitation to perform at Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference
The Forney High School Percussion Ensemble recently received an invitation to perform at The 77th Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference, held annually in December at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. The Midwest Clinic is the largest band and orchestra conference in the United States.

Forney ISD & Rep. Keith Bell - “Our Kids are More Than a Test:” TX HB4402
On Thursday, April 20, 2023, Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry, Board President Greg Pharris, and Chief Learning Officer Dr. Judy Webber testified in Austin in support of Texas House Bill 4402. This legislation was a joint effort by Forney ISD and Texas State Representative Keith Bell, House District 4. “Our students are so much more than just one test, held on one day. Their successes and talents span further than only math, reading, science, and social studies. They are more than a test,” Dr. Terry said. “Our schools and districts are not against accountability but want to be measured on the many, many opportunities in which our students exhibit success each day that help prepare them for future careers and to be productive citizens within their communities.”

Business leaders are taking on public education with Forney ISD
Five business leaders are the first to announce their partnership with Forney ISD (FISD) to create the latest innovative approach to education at The Opportunity Central (The OC). This fall, The OC – a career, college and community center – will open with a variety of retail shops, service providers and eateries operating on the bottom floor of the 3-story campus. The mall-like setting will be an extension of the traditional classroom where business professionals will offer students practical experiences to gain industry knowledge, training and mentorship to be successful in their chosen program of study and insight to future careers.

Forney ISD Partners with Evolv to Enhance Safety and Security
Earlier this year, Forney ISD expanded the random safety screening program as a part of the next phase of ongoing enhancements to our safety and security plan. After thorough research and planning by the Forney ISD Safety Task Force, the district is excited to announce the rollout of the latest, state-of-the-art, weapons detection system called Evolv in our high school, middle and intermediate campuses.

FISD Announces Six New Career & Tech Programs for 2023-24
Several new programs have been added to the already robust career and technical education opportunities for high school students at Forney ISD. In the 2023-2024 school year, program selections have been expanded to the current list to include: Automotive Technology, Construction Management, Cosmetology, Emergency Services, Exercise Science and Wellness, and Fashion Design. All six of the new programs will be offered at The Opportunity Central (The OC) starting this Fall 2023.

Forney ISD Receives Grant for 5 New Buses
As a part of the Texas Clean School Bus (TCSB) Program, Forney ISD received a grant towards purchasing five newer, cleaner bus models. Funding is used to replace or retrofit school buses to help reduce children’s exposure to diesel exhaust in and around diesel-fueled school buses.

Jackson MS Band Director, Corey Graves, Named Yamaha 40 Under 40
Jackson Middle School Director of Bands, Corey Graves, was named a 2023 Yamaha 40 Under 40 Music Educator. There were four directors from Texas announced on the list, but Graves is the only Middle School Director.
