Forney ISD Invites Local Businesses, Organizations and Individuals to Participate in This Year’s ‘Fill the Backpack’ Event
Forney ISD is inviting all members of the community to participate in this year’s ‘Fill the Backpack’ event which is scheduled to take place at Brown Middle School on Saturday, Aug. 3. The Fill the Backpack event will be held to provide backpacks filled with school supplies for Forney ISD students who may need assistance with purchasing school supplies for the 2019-2020 school year.
In addition to the backpacks, Passport Health/Staying Healthy Medical Services will also hold a children’s vaccination clinic at the event to help students get up to date with their vaccinations prior to the start of school. Eye exams, offered by the Forney Lions Club, will also be available at the Fill the Backpack event.
“We are very excited about this year’s Fill the Backpack event and thrilled with all of the businesses and organizations that have committed their support,” said Dana Curry, the Community Partnerships Coordinator with Forney ISD and organizer of the Fill the Backpack event. “We have already received a number of donations and commitments. This will really be a blessing for many of our students.”
There are a number of ways that businesses and organizations that would like to support Forney ISD and help Forney ISD students can participate in the Fill the Backpack event. Businesses can donate backpacks filled with school supplies by purchasing them online through Educational Products, Inc. (EPI). Orders for the backpacks filled with school supplies will be available until July 7. Businesses and/or organizations that would like to purchase the filled backpacks can do so by going to the EPI website at bit.ly/Fill2019.
Businesses and organizations can also help with the Fill the Backpack event by hosting an organization ‘School Supply Drive’. The organization can collect backpacks filled with school supplies for students and then deliver those backpacks to Forney ISD by Aug. 2. For a list of school supplies, please visit the Forney ISD website at www.ForneyISD.net/Partnerships.
Tax deductible financial donations are also being accepted for the Fill the Backpack event. Companies and organizations can donate money to support the event or help students cover the cost of technology fees and other expense. Donations can be made on-line at www.forneycommunity.org.
Ron Sparks Inc. (RSI) is one of the local companies that has already made donations to the Fill the Backpack event. Stefanie Wallace, a representative from RSI said the company wants to support Forney ISD in any way possible to help the District provide the best education possible for every student.
“The students and staff in Forney ISD are important to us at RSI,” Wallace stated. “We know how hard the teachers work every year to provide the best education for our kids here in Forney, so we feel like it is the least we can do to provide the necessary supplies for the students to succeed.
In addition to donations and support businesses and organizations, individuals can also help with the Fill the Backpack event. Individuals can also purchase a backpack filled with school supplies on-line from EPI or, they can purchase a backpack themselves and fill it with the supplies and deliver it to Forney ISD. The school supply lists can be accessed from the Forney ISD website at www.forneyisd.net/partnerships. Individuals can also make financial donations to the event by going to www.forneycommunity.org.
