Forney ISD Music Teacher Honored by CMA Foundation as a 2023 Music Teachers of Excellence Recipient
Corey Graves, Band Director at Jackson Middle School, was recognized by the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation for being named one of the 2023 Music Teachers of Excellence. Graves is one of only 30 educators to receive this award from across the nation.
“We could not be more proud to have an educator like Mr. Graves represent Forney ISD. His dedication to students and his passion for music is valued throughout the community, and we are so proud of the impact he has on our entire Forney family,” said Forney ISD Fine Arts Director Mario Luna.
Graves is finishing his sixteenth year in education. He has served as the Band Director at Jackson Middle School since 2021. Under his direction, bands have earned the highest levels of state and national recognition. His students have also consistently received superior sweepstakes ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest.
The recipients were chosen through an extensive application process, which includes teaching videos, professional references and community service work. Music Teachers of Excellence are selected based on their dedication to bringing a high-quality music education to their students and the impact they've had on their school community through music.
Graves has been invited to attend the CMA Foundation’s Music Teachers of Excellence ceremony on Tuesday, September 19 in Nashville. Along with the recognition, the foundation will invest $150,000 total to all of this year’s award recipients to put towards their classroom needs, music programs and personal expenses.
