Forney ISD Receives National Math and Science Initiatives Program Grant
Forney ISD was awarded the National Math & Science Initiative's College Readiness and Laying the Foundation Program Grant worth upwards of a half million dollars. These programs help schools build and maintain subject matter expertise, enhance their leadership of diverse classrooms and propel students’ confidence, creativity and problem solving skills.
AP math, science, and reading teachers will all have the opportunity to apply to participate in the award-winning training offered by NMSI and be eligible for up to a $2,000 honorarium. Students will benefit by having access to additional learning resources and decreased AP exam registration costs: 50% reduction for most students and 100% reduction for students eligible for free or reduced lunch.
“I am so excited to bring this program to the staff and students of Forney ISD,” said Director of Advanced Academics Mel Harlan. “Increasing equity in and accessibility to AP programs is a district goal and this grant will help us accomplish that.”
The funding cycle from the grant will begin during the 2023-24 school year.
