Community Members Help Forney ISD Have a Successful Start to the 2019-2020 School Year

After an exciting summer vacation, students in Forney ISD returned to the classroom on Monday, Aug. 19 ready to tackle new challenges and continue their educational journey. In preparation for their return to school, Forney ISD had several community organizations, businesses and individuals go beyond the call of duty to make the start of this school year a great start!

Backpacks The biggest event prior to the start of the school year was the Forney Family Back to School Resource Fair which was held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Brown Middle School. Prior to the event, several local businesses, organizations, and individuals donated backpacks filled with school supplies that were handed out free to students attending the event. Businesses and organizations that donated backpacks and supplies were RSI Construction, Infinity Texas Air, CareUnited, First Presbyterian Church, CLife Church and First United Methodist Church.

With all of the support from the community, Forney ISD was able to provide approximately 800 students with backpacks filled with school supplies this year.

In addition to the backpacks and school supplies, students were also able to pick up school uniforms, get dental exams, immunizations and eye screenings! More than 3,400 items of donated clothing were handed out at the event this year!

The eye screenings at the event were conducted by the Forney Lions Club and the immunizations were provided by Passport Health. The dental screenings at the event were managed by Mirror Lake Dentistry.

In addition to the Forney Family Back to School Resource Fair, several other businesses also donated a number of school supplies to the District. Brookshires of Forney donated 81 packages of school supplies and Krogers of Forney held a school supply drive over the summer that saw more than 390 Forney residents donate school supply kits to the District!

The Forney Community Ministries, which includes the First Presbyterian Church of Forney, Sharing the Love Foundation,  the First United Methodist Church of Forney and the Hunger Relief Ministries, works with Forney ISD to receive, store and distribute school uniforms, school supplies, and food items.

In addition to the resource fair, several volunteers from across the community joined Forney ISD on the first day of school to welcome students back to the classroom. Volunteers met students at the front doors of their schools cheering them on and encouraging them to have a great school year.

Thanks to the support of these outstanding organizations and volunteers, several students in Forney ISD have school uniforms, backpacks, school supplies and a new enthusiasm for learning during the 2019-20 school year!
