All Six Forney ISD 6th-12th Campuses Named Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Nominees

Forney ISD staff puts relationships first.  It’s the district’s core value, and campuses do a great job of this every single day.  So it’s no surprise that both Rhea and Smith Intermediates, Brown and Warren Middle, and Forney and North Forney High Schools were named as nominees for the Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools award for the 2020-2021 school year.

“It is an honor just to be nominated, and to have 6 campuses - all of our intermediate, middle and high schools nominated, is incredible,” Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry.  “I am so proud of all of our staff and students, but even more so this year, as we faced our hardest year in education ever, yet our staff still found ways to keep our core value ‘relationships first’ as a top priority.”

The award celebrates campuses across the nation that go above and beyond in building a safe and welcoming environment where students are relationally connected and eager to learn.

“I have no doubt we have the hardest working staff in the world, but they always start with what matters most: connecting with kids,” Forney ISD Board President Greg Pharris said. “We are so proud of all of our campuses, as all 13,000 students have staff that are connecting with them, implementing social contracts, and putting kids first on a daily basis.  To be nominated is confirmation of the important work they’re doing every single day.”

The Flippen Group describes nominees as schools that have committed to being transformed into an emotionally safe and relationally connected place for students, staff, and parents to come alive with a love for learning. Teachers and staff implement Capturing Kids’ HeartsⓇ processes to increase students’ connectedness with both peers and adults on campus. They create a classroom environment where students are excited to enter and learn every day.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School awardees are evaluated and selected based on survey and performance data from administrators, teachers, staff, and students. Decreases in discipline referrals as well as positive campus culture and climate are common themes among the data from awarded campuses.

The Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School awardees from across the nation will be announced in the coming days. Good luck to all of the nominated campuses!
