Forney Independent School District recently held the Annual Dual Language Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the District’s Central Administration building. The District Dual Language Spelling Bee consisted of dual language students from the 3rd through 8th grade who qualified for the District Dual Language Spelling Bee through preliminary competitions held at their schools.
The preliminary finalists consisted of four 3rd grade dual language students, nine - 4th and 5th grade preliminary finalists and 12 - 6th through 8th grade preliminary finalists.
Jonas Mendez won first place in the 3rd grade dual language spelling bee competition and Jonathan Ruiz took second place.
Danika Escajeda captured first place in the 4th-5th grade division of the dual language spelling bee and Raju Sapkota won second place.
Lyle Springer was the champion in the 6th through 8th grade division and Andres Calderon took second place in the 6th through 8th grade division.
All of the first place winners from each age group advance to the Region 10 Dual Language Spelling Bee competition which will be held on March 3 at the Region 10 Education Service Center (ESC) located in Richardson, Texas. Students that finished in second place are alternates if the first place winner is unable to compete in the Region 10 competition.
