Crosby Elementary School Teacher Recognized with First Year Teacher Classroom Support Award
The Kaufman County Retired School Personnel recently announced their selection for the 2019 Forney ISD Kaufman County First Year Teacher Classroom Support Award. This year’s recipient from Forney ISD is Vania Peña, a first grade teacher at Crosby Elementary School.
Members of the Kaufman County Retired School Personnel organization presented Peña with a check for $100 on Tuesday, May 7 for being selected as this year’s recipient of the Forney ISD First Year Teacher Classroom Support Award.
“Ms. Peña has been an amazing addition to our staff and an example of how a first year teacher, or any teacher, can grow immensely by opening themselves to new ideas and ways to challenge themselves and their students,” said Crosby Elementary School Principal Leslie Rader. “She immediately implemented ideas she collected from her student teaching experience in her first grade classroom and has implemented new teaching techniques and classroom management skills. She thoroughly prepares for meetings with parents or committees about student progress so that she can appropriately communicate and advocate for her students.”
Peña received her Bachelor’s Degree in Core Subjects Early Childhood through Grade 6 from Dallas Baptist University and earned her Master’s Degree in Education in Reading and English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, also from Dallas Baptist University. She completed her student teaching in 2018 at Cannaday Elementary School in Mesquite ISD in Mesquite, Texas.
