North Forney High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble Kicks Off Competition Season with a First Place Trophy
On Saturday, Feb. 8, the North Forney High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble kicked off their competitive season in the North Texas Colorguard Association Competition.
The NFHS Indoor Percussion Ensemble, now starting their fourth year of competition, performed a show titled Apollo 13. April 11, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission to the moon. The North Forney Indoor Percussion Ensemble portrays this historical event through a musical presentation in three movements.
The ensemble performs Jacob Remington’s Collide which represents the lift-off and the excitement of the journey as well as the impact of the oxygen tank exploding, the moment when the mission significantly changed.
The ensemble then moves into Claude Debussy’s Claire De Lune, which depicts the journey of Apollo 13 around the moon. The tranquil music reflects the vastness of space seen in the light of the moon as the crew waits in suspense to see if the action they have taken will allow them to complete the mission.
The ensemble’s musical presentation then concludes with Beethoven’s third movement from Piano Sonata #14, Moonlight, representing the joy of surviving and completing a mission that at one point seemed impossible.
At the North Texas Colorguard Association’s competition, the NFHS Indoor Percussion Ensemble captured 1st Place with a score of 84.2 earning the highest score at the contest.
The ensemble’s next competition will be at the World Championship Competition in Dayton, Ohio.
