Esports Offered District-Wide to FISD Students
Forney ISD has expanded its esports programs into elementary schools across the district. With this expansion, esports is now offered district-wide for students ages 1st-12th grade. Events include a variety of games and information on healthy habits and teamwork. Over 270 students are currently enrolled in the program at elementary campuses.
For students in intermediate and middle school, the Office of Engagement hosts tournaments throughout the year with games such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.
High school students can join the esports club and compete in different leagues and against surrounding schools.
The goal of the program is to offer students additional educational opportunities in the world of esports and help prepare students for future careers in esports and technology. In the last year, the esports industry has surpassed 1 billion dollars and on average, 3 out of every 4 school age students participated in some sort of esports event in the last year. Students can also receive scholarships for college and universities that have an esports program or team.
